How much sex and nudity is too much?

I would like to review a movie on this blog that has things to say about oppressive authority, women's status despite modern feminist dogma, and the human spirit. There's just one catch, though. That is why I preview the review with this question for the readers .... how much sex and nudity in movies or TV shows, or anything else for that matter is too much? I already know that most reading here are not of the mindset that we should go about adding fig leaves to Greek works of art or anything like that, and most of us probably view some, and more than we'd like, partial nudity in ads, and on TV,etc.

But where do you personally draw the line? And where do you draw the line in what you read about such things in Christian publications? We want to engage the culture, but we know that doesn't mean wallow in it, but just what does it mean when it comes to a media driven society such as ours?

I have been positioned at several points along the spectrum between censoring out almost everything ( no TV, no movies, no magazines, etc) to censoring out only the worst offenders. I personally, at this point, allow for the sexual content if it is necessary to the truth of the story. ( Which it is in the case of the movie review I have in mind).

But while it is true that you don't have to read here and I can post things that you might not like, it is also true that you come here with expectations that Christian standards will be the rule, and that what you read will in some way shed understanding in a godly way.

So how does your reader meter tally what you want to entertain and educate you? Do you think it is harmful to view a movie with some partial nudity and sexual themes?

This is where I'm at too, Ilona. It depends on the integrity with which it's presented.

My family has the same approach to violence in movies. If it's gratuitous, no way. If it's part of the story (and the story is a good one), then...yes.

Of course, an exception might be made if one finds a personal temptation in a particular presentation of sex, or nudity, or violence, or otherwise suffers from it in a non-edifying way.
