Hi! I’m Kristine. I’m new to Intellectuelle and was asked to introduce myself, so…
I have four sons, ages "Maaaaaawwwwm!" to Knows Everything (8-1/2, 12, 15, and 16+), and a total of five boys. I've been married to the oldest one for 25 years. A recovering Californian transplanted to the Great Northwest a few years back, my hobbies include writing, hiking, hanging out with friends and eating pizza, walking Eve, our incurably affable yellow Lab, visiting Mount Rainier, and watching MacEddies. (If you don't know what the last one is, ask your grandmother. Maybe your great-grandmother.)
Besides writing, I enjoy reading, fishing (except for the fish part), camping (except for the tent part), and swimming (except for the water part). Also snuggling up with the Big Guy and doing most anything other than laundry. I’ve authored nine books to date and am working on my next title. Other pursuits include: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, German chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate with almonds and hot chocolate.
I said “Yes” to the Lord Jesus Christ at age seven following a Sunday school lesson on Easter by my third grade teacher, Mrs. Eleanor Jermain. I dedicated my life to Christ at Hume Lake Christian Camp on August 11, 1975. A graduate of Biola University (Go, Eagles!), I earned a double major in Bible and Communication (Print Media) and life membership in Delta Epsilon Chi, a national academic honor society. I’ve taken additional coursework on the Master’s and J.D. levels.
My professional background includes work in public relations and marketing as a staff writer, feature editor and senior editor. I spent several years in aerospace before “retiring” in 1993 to get a real job as a Professional Mother and Homeschooler. The Big Guy and I serve as Children’s Ministries Co-Directors for our church. (When the kids ask about my hometown I say, “Second star to the right and straight on till morning!”)
Favorite Movies:
Gone With the Wind, The Sound of Music, Ben Hur, The King and I, The Christmas Box, Sleepless in Seattle, 1,000 Men and a Baby, and Sense and Sensibility. I confess a great fondness for just about anything starring Danny Kaye. The best Western ever made? Shane, with Alan Ladd. My favorite John Wayne movie? The Quiet Man, co-starring the incomparable Maureen O'Hara.
Favorite Music:
Anything sung by Andrea Bocelli, particularly his exquisite rendition of Nessun Dorma. Altho I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, I enjoy everything from Fanny Crosby and Isaac Watts to John Denver, Glenn Campbell, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, Puccini, and Burt Bacharach.
Favorite Books:
Man! That's like asking a mother which kid is her favorite. Well, alright. I confess a great fondness for Margery Williams' immortal classic, The Velveteen Rabbit. I'm also a big fan of Curious George and The Man in the Yellow Hat. (Don't tell anyone.) My list of favorite authors is ridiculous, so don't ask! (If you insist, click on My Book Shelf on my blog sidebar @ http://www.HEvencense.wordpress.com)
Favorite Pairings:
Ralph Kramden & Ed Norton; Lucy & Ethel; Cobb salad with honey mustard dressing; broiled salmon with dill sauce and bay shrimp; Rodgers & Hammerstein
Favorite Places I've Never Been:
London, Vienna, and *Tuscany*
My favorite quotes these days:
"We are women, and my plea is Let me be a woman, holy through and through, asking for nothing but what God wants to give me, receiving with both hands and with all my heart whatever that is."
--Elisabeth Elliot
