South Korean Christian hostages to be freed

Per Michelle Malkin:

Qari Yousef Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, said South Korean and Taliban delegates at face-to-face talks Tuesday in the central town of Ghazni had “reached an agreement” to release the captives.

In Seoul, South Korean presidential spokesman Cheon Ho-sun confirmed a deal was reached.

“The agreement was reached on conditions that South Korea withdraw its troops stationed in Afghanistan by the year’s end and impose a ban on its Christian nationals’ missionary activities in Afghanistan,” [presidential spokesman Cheon Ho-seon] said.

According to the Yahoo News report,

In reaching the deal, South Korea did not appear to commit to anything it did not already plan to do. Seoul has already said it would withdraw its 200 non-combat troops by the end of the year and has also sought to prevent missionaries from causing trouble in countries where they were not wanted.

(Hmmm. Does a ban = "not causing trouble"?)

Let us pray that actual release would be timely and that the hostages would have adequate opportunity to recover. Most of them are reported ill due to the conditions. Also pray for the families of the two hostages who were killed. And pray for those who hearts are hardened, that they might know the grace of our Lord.

Comments

I was relieved to hear of the release, then grieved when I read the rest of the article, because I hardly think the hostages themselves would agree to such a "ban" (on mission work.) I know the Apostle Paul, Peter and others over the centuries did not.

Last I had read on this, it was "rumored", so I am happy for the release.

Like Ruthie, I find the conditions ominous. There is more to this outcome than is presently evident.
