Faith

And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them. And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men. And being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven." -- Mark 2:2-5 NASB

The four men had:

* determination
* care and concern for the paralytic
* belief that Jesus could heal him

Whatever a person expends great amounts of time, effort, and energy on is what that person loves and has faith in. May we all have faith in those things which can truly reward our efforts and deliver the objects of our hope.

Yes, Bonnie, a wonderful story of faith, love, and determination. While we often hear the story, in terms of the healing of paralytic, isn't it interesting that the first thing Jesus tells the paralytic is, "your sins are forgiven"? The skeptics immediately grumbled that only God can forgive sins; to which Jesus then proceeded to justify his divine authority by doing the easier task, that of healing the man's physical ailment.

Yes, there is more than one profound thing going on in this situation. One is the faith of the four men, another is, as you mentioned, Jesus' demonstration to the scribes of His authority to forgive sins. (Another is the public's amazement, which led them to glorify God.)
