So many of my photos are taken on the fly, or the run, they're snapshots, basically. I try to take several of each view in the hopes that one or two will be decent. They're not, always, but sometimes I get lucky, as with this one, which came out pretty clear despite the fact that I was doing hand-held, on my haunches about a foot off the ground. No tripod, evening light. Pressured to keep up with the group I was walking with.

So I'm really happy I got this shot: an unconventional view of the waxy, slightly mysterious, slightly exotic mayapple blossom.
