The homeschooler's life

I've often thought of writing about my family's homeschooling life, but then thought, nah...too specific, who will really care, etc., so I haven't. But I just learned that another homeschooling mother has, and very well, at First Things.

Sally Thomas' approach sounds very much like my family's. Except we do other activities in place of specifically Catholic ones (substitute a prayer journal and missionary studies for saying the rosary and studying a saint's life, for example), although our kids have learned the Pater Noster (in Latin) and say it occasionally at bedtime.

Her comments on socialization, integrated (non-subject-delineated) learning, "artificial boundaries", and educational efficiency are particularly good (which means, pretty much, all of them!) Even if you don't homeschool and don't plan to, I recommend her article for its insights on wholistic, faith-driven education.
