Bonnie, There are a lot of things here that I didn't know about you, and I've never even heard of your favorite authors. Fun! You should do a musical blog post sometime, complete with audio!
I can hear the baritone from Handel's Messiah singing, "The trumpet shall sound!" Duh, duh, duh, Duh, DUh, DUH, "And the dead shall be raised."
Bonnie....wow! This is way too cool - I've been playing trumpet for 20+ years! Before I devoted my time to theological studies, I played regularly. I'm so glad we discovered this commonality.
I really enjoyed "A beautiful Mind" myself and would recommend it. It's very good acting from Russell Crowe - quite different for him. He's a Kiwi but not all that popular here as he is too fisty. But we liked him in that movie.
Beautiful minds... and what they go through to fulfil their designed purpose.
Enjoyed your succinct testimony. Reminds me how to impact someone's life.
The Chevy Luv brought back memories of learning to drive a standard w/my bro in an Izuzu Pup.
I, too, am a night owl. Would like to learn more on sleep patterns. Of course, the night owl gig isn't conducive to this time in my life.
Thanks for sharing.
Bonnie, I forget to mention that "A Beautiful Mind" is one of my favorite movies. Definitely you should watch it.
Bonnie, you will always have a special place in my heart because of our shared love of A Severe Mercy :)
I give A Beautiful Mind a big thumbs up also.
Thanks for sharing more of yourself with us.
Sarah -- no way! That is *way* cool that you play trumpet.
Hannah, I considered offering to host the Christian Carnival, thinking I'd organize the posts thematically in sonata-rondo form or something like that. Maybe someday :-)
Handel's Messiah definitely ranks up there -- the Halleluia Chorus has a pretty good trumpet part too; I usually get to play it once a year or so.
Lexie: let's hear it for truck-drivin' women! LOL I still drive shift, although it will probably be obsolete by the time we need a new car!
Marla, Severe Mercy supplied for me the missing links between Christianity and the aesthetic way I understood the world at the time. It's a Catholic sort of sacramental understanding (that I think Protestantism could use more of!)
That's it -- gotta rent "A Beautiful Mind!" Thanks, guys. (Haven't seen a "deep" movie in at least 10 years...)
Yesss, A Beautiful Mind is absolutely captivating. Man, I'm going to have to watch it now.
Your unhealthy obsession is one of mine as well...when you figure out how to remedy it, do share. :-/
"Never stop learning" is a wonderful goal.
Sounds like you have a better handle on yourself than I, or probably most people, do. God uses our weaknesses, as well as our strengths.
Laura, what say you guys all come over to my house & we'll watch "Beautiful Mind" together & eat chicken wings? (OK, popcorn :-) )
Martin, thank you for that beautiful comment. Handle on myself? Dunno about that; but thank you for reminding me of the completeness of our redemption. (You're welcome to do that anytime :-) ).
"A Severe Mercy" was required reading when I home schooled my oldest two for high school. They both loved it. My daughter fell head over heels in love with Sheldon VanAuken. My son spent last semester studying in England, and wanted to find St. Udio.
I used to be a night owl too. Until I would read stuff I wrote late at night, and it didn't make much sense (like now) in the morning.
