Only 300 Pages to Go

Good day, blogging friends! I may need to take a break for a few days because I realized that I am about 300 pages behind in my reading for my class on World Missions.

I have actually already read an earlier edition of the assigned text From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya: A Biographical History of Christian Missions by Ruth A. Tucker, but it has been revised with many new chapters. Besides, my integrity dictates that prior reading do not count!

A history of missions may sound cold, dry, and tasteless. Ha! It is as cold, dry, and tasteless, as a big scoop of Haagen Dahz melting on a slice of warm, homemade apple pie. It is one of my favorite books. It is very easy to read and the portrayals of missionary successes and foibles are fascinating. I highly recommend it. It would be very good for a junior high or high school homeschoolers, too. I could have read it when I was 13.

Well, goodbye for now. Enjoy your weekends.

I should add that the author of this book is a woman herself, and that the book does a great job of focusing on the role of women in world missions. Ruth A. Tucker should be an inspiration to all "Intellectuelles"!

That's a book I've seen mentioned often, but never read. I'll have to pursue it more aggressively.

If you haven't yet seen Nate and Paula Wilson's website, you really ought to. As dry as it might sound, click on the Database. You'll like it. *grin*

Read on, Hannah.

Hannah, that is a great book. I read it for one of my missions classes (missions was my major). It's also really good as a reference work. Pretty much any significant happening in missions history is there, so I love looking things up if I am curious about chronology, or someone's characterization of a particular missionary.

OOOH! Good book. My sister and her husband recently got the updated version of that book and gave the old version to my husband and I. It's wonderful!
