Family Facts #27

Pornography consumption is significantly associated with perceptions of emotional infidelity. People also perceive online acts of infidelity as being authentic and real as offline acts.

I agree. After all Jesus was clear it is not just the act of adultery that is bad, but lust itself.

I would say that online acts of infidelity ARE as authentic and real as offline acts.

Although I'm not a fan of pornography, I do not accept the concept that perception is the same as reality. The examples are endless just think about it.

Zeke writes:

I have to agree with Gaz on this one. Thoughts matter, but they aren't the same as action in the material world. It may be that Jesus truly meant our thoughts were the same as our deeds with regard to sin, but thinking ain't doing.

Christian Guy writes:

Zeke, I'd say the "act" is intentionally clicking on the link in the first place, and then the emotional infidelity that follows, so just because there is no on-flesh act per se, there is an act of infidelity. This is clearly a battle I struggle with, so I'm not pointing fingers, just making a point.

On the flip side, I found out recently that my wife was calling a man - an "old friend" she called him when I found her number in her cell phone - for emotional consolation. Her "act" of deliberately contacting this guy behind my back was as emotionally unfaithful as my late-night forays on the internet.

I believe both were adultry in God's eyes, as both her and my acts were undermining the trust and fabric of our covenantal relationship with each other and with God, which is by definition adultry in our hearts.

In God's grace we're both working to resolve our issues. But until that night that we admitted this unfaithfulness to each other and forgave one another, we weren't going to make any progress toward reconciliation.

Ludwig writes:

with all the demented nonsense being excreted here about thinking, looking and acting being "all the same in the cough...eyes...cough...of gods", you'd think one of u cultist wackos could at least try to be funny at it....

smmtheory writes:

With as much proselytizing as you do Ludwig, you'd think you could at least learn how not to be so insulting about it.

Ludwig writes:

there is nothing insulting to the refering of insanity as being...well...insane...thats just a statement of fact. and there is nothing sane about believing that there's some god king sitting on a throne somewhere in the sky concerning itself with the goings on down here on the world, let alone where you point and click on your computer

smmtheory writes:

The perception is that you are being insulting. Whether you believe you are or are not has no bearing on what other people perceive. You have transgressed against your fellow mankind Ludwig. Being intransigent in the knowledge or understanding of it does not lessen your sin to any degree.

Why does Joe even let him contribute anymore? Has he ever contributed anything worthwile?
