The Kerry campaign has told Salon.com that Regnery, the publisher of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth book "Unfit for Command," is retailing a hoax and should consider withdrawing it from bookstores. "No publisher should want to be selling books with proven falsehoods in them, especially falsehoods that are meant to smear the military service of an American veteran," said Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton.
Joel from Southern Appeal wonders where Kerry’s censors have been all this time:
Where were the Kerry Camp Censors when Fahrenheit 9/11 was smearing Bush all over movie screens across the world? Nowhere, because Moore has a right to express his particular worldview, even if it is completely unfair and unhinged, and because it's good for Kerry.Where were the Kerry Camp Censors when MoveOn.org started their own 527 slam campaign on Bush? Where are they now, when mere allegations about GWB's TANG record are being passed off as fact in ads running now? Where was the 527 outrage then? Nowhere, because MoveOn.org has a right to their quirky, abrasive form of political expression, and that's good for Kerry.
What Joel forgot to mention – which helps explain the absence – is that “Nowhere” is in Cambodia. Or near Cambodia. Or at least within 50 miles of Cambodia…

The Democratic Party is the party of tolerance. They accept all points of view (as long as they are theirs) and they accept all people (as long as they agree with the party) and all truth is true (unless it disagrees with the part line). St. Paul MN, Mayor Kelly endorses George Bush and immediately the party faithful begin a rule call campaign. This tolerant group is proposing that Mayor Kelly’s right to endorse is malfeasance, (I assume) since the state requires that for a recall to pass.
"Where were the Kerry Camp Censors when MoveOn.org started their own 527 slam campaign on Bush? "
I recall that the Kerry campaign DID denounce some of MoveOn's ads. I know you will correct me if I'm wrong. ;)
Also, I agree that the Kerry campaign is being silly by suggesting to Regnery that they shouldn't be selling a book filled with lies. That's because Regnery sells quite a few other titles that are equally bogus. They obviously don't care.
Didn't Will Regnery II recently donate some money or start a group to specifically facilitate dating between "white Christian heterosexuals" or some such nonsense? I mean, these guys are from another planet. Or at least from another time (say, 1840, or thereabouts).
The last swiftboat ad is the first time I've heard of Kerry condemning a 527 ad. I do recall he praised Moore, don't recall a word condemning the moveon propaganda, or criticizing the smearing of American veterans. I also note that the Kerry Campaign itself has been smearing decorated Vietnam War veterans while at the same time denoucing such actions aimed at Kerry and failing to answer any allegations and questions brought up about Kerry's service to his country and disservice to his country after he got out of Vietnam.
Double standard. Republicans are guilty of it, just not to the extreme degree that the Democrats have been.

Huh?! Are you saying that the Campaign has been smearing all decorated Vietnam vets? On what grounds?
"Republicans are guilty of [double standard], just not to the extreme degree that the Democrats have been."
Absolute total rubbish. What you are witnessing is the complete meltdown of Rove and Co. They've got nothing positive to say about Bush's leadership (because he is quite obviously the worst president ever) so they are left with attacking Kerry. And if we look at how they are attacking Kerry, we find out that they must be very desperate indeed. Because these Swift Boat loonies are liars. That part of the debate is over. THe part of the debate which is still ongoing is whether the use of the Swift Boat Liars is going to blow up in Bush's face. I predict to avoid such a blow-up, Bush will make a statement distancing himself from the Swift Boaters within one week, i.e., by August 27th). Mark my words.
As for Kerry's denouncing of one of MoveON's ads, that already happened (earlier this week). Deal with it. The ironic part is that I'm not convinced that any part of the MoveOn ad is in the least way inaccurate (unlike the Swift Boat stuff I'm aware of, which grossly distorts the facts as badly as the RNC's ads re Sen. Cleland did a couple years back).

In the latest twist in an ongoing debate about military credentials, Kerry condemned the new ad by the MoveOn political action committee, even though it was produced in response to an ad questioning Kerry's Vietnam War record.
``This should be a campaign of issues, not insults,'' Kerry said in a written statement.
Kerry called the ad ``inappropriate'' after Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., a former Vietnam prisoner of war, criticized the MoveOn commercial. The 30-second ad accuses Bush of using family connections to avoid the Vietnam War.
Because these Swift Boat loonies are liars. That part of the debate is over.
