Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly. -- Proverbs 26:11
Yesterday we had a bit of fun at the expense of professional gadfly Max Blumenthal. We enjoyed providing a lesson in web etiquette by showing what can happen when you hotlink images without permission. Although it took almost four hours, Max caught on and pulled the image from the Huffington Post. Thinking our prank had run its course, we returned the original image.
Then he did it again.
Not only did he hotlink the same image to the Huffington Post, he included it on The Smirking Chimp, Talk2Action, and on his own website, MaxBlumenthal.com. We've decided to provide a remedial lesson by exposing some of Max's favorite blogs and websites. Listed below are srceenshots of the various sites (click on the link to view the image):

- Little Green Footballs
- National Review Online
- RedState
- FreeRepublic.com
- Human Events' Right Angle
- Bluey Blog
- Wizbang!
- NewsBusters
- InstaPundit
- TownHall.com
- Pursuing Holiness
- WORLD magazine's blog
- Wonkette
Thanks, Max. You've provided us with hours of amusement here at FRC.

Joe:
I don't have my Bible here, but isn't there a proverb that goes something like "As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly"?
Good to see you're enjoying yourself.

Yesterday was the National Day of Prayer and you focus on your feud with Blumenthal without addressing any of the issues he raised in his Huffington Post article. Nice work.
Seems to me that Max Blumenthal is some sort of threat to you guys. Anyhow this whole episode is kind of good as it shows the FRC for what it is-a partisan right-wing authoritarian political organization. I mean, c'mon, honestly take a look at the websites you list in your post.
You guys are should be called the anti-evangelical outpost as you are chasing people away from the gospel not drawing them to it. You are not really bringing good publicity to your group either. Maybe you don't really care about reaching out to people-maybe it's all about pandering to your base?

JohnW,
And they say conservatives have no sense of humor.
Joe,
Let's be careful. He may have something up his sleeve. Wouldn't be surprized. Few are this willing to take abuse. Maybe something legal might be more appropriate. But include the kitty for good measure. ;-)

I read your site daily but comment infrequently. Many of the times I walk away angry, I at least believe that I have been challenged to examine some part of my life and world view.
I questioned yesterday's "joke." I found it un-Christlike but as someone said, maybe I should get a better sense of humor.
Today, however, the game is not about humor. If any of your "allies" had violated your version of internet etiquette, I doubt that you would have embarrassed them and laughed about it. Why should those whom you consider adversaries be subject to repeated humiliation? The practice of blessing those who curse you seems to be suddenly absent.
Earlier this week you quoted John H. Armstrong who said "[c]ould it be that what I have called our “America-centric” mindset is in fact a form of worldliness?" This repeated joke seems a form of "America-centrism" that prizes getting even and humilating those with whom we disagree. Once may have been funny. Twice is arrogance that does not become you.

Wow, thanks for including Pursuing Holiness on the list! The whole thing is hilarious.

There are no internet cops and I don't want them, but don't you think someone who repeatedly steals ought to be subject to *some* kind of penalty? Bandwidth isn't free. By hotlinking, Blumenthal is taking a valuable commodity away from his political adversary and is clearly doing it deliberately, not out of ignorance, as this second offense proves. Can you name a single reason why the FRC should pay to provide content for HuffPo?

You're taking this waaayyy too seriously. This is just a goofy stunt, on par with the pranks colleges pull on their rivals. We have gone out of our way to make sure we don't step over the line and are keeping it in a sense of good-humor. Yes, Max B. is an obnoxious jerk but we didn't "retaliate" and return "evil for evil." Instead, we're returning "goofiness for evil." ; )

Better yet ... raise money for pro-life ventures.
I'll bet you could even sell advertising space here!

I encourage every one to read Blumenthal's article about Jack Abramoff and his religious right assoications and be open to hearing the truth instead of just making assumptions.

Don,
Don't ask. Lobby.
I just found out last night that Evangelical Perspective is #87 on Amazon's list of Theological blogs. (Joe is way up there in an alternate category.)
Hits, baby, hits! ;-)

Now Blumenthal is accusing FRC of "hacking" (his word) his site. Hacking a site would be illegal. But better yet, it didn't happen. That's a false criminal accusation.
FRC only managed their own image. The link is his fault, but he won't take responsibility. I hope he files a false criminal complaint.

How ironic that Blumenthal's article was criticizing Christopher Hitchens for being too mean on religion!
I questioned yesterday's "joke." I found it un-Christlike but as someone said, maybe I should get a better sense of humor.
I thought it was good natured, especially the part about the 'kitty poisen'. However I don't think it's necessary to rub it in. They guy may simply not be very good with web design and doesn't know how to get the pic into his posts without linking to the original.

1. Bandwidth is just about free. Any damage Blumenthal did was quite trivial so it's over the top to talk about what type of penalty he deserves.
2. If cost was a problem then why replace one pic with another (one that's probably bigger).
3. By linking to a site you are taking something away from it? If anything his link would send more people to the FRC site.
4. You should get over yourself. It was a cute joke but if you're going to play it up as some type of crusade then it's time to turn off the computer.

Boontoon,
The bottom line is they don't like Blumenthal because of his article discussing Tony Perkin's associations with Klan in Louisanna prior to his involvement with the FRC. There is a link to this article in the Huffington Post article. I encourage everyone to read the article.

It's odd to me that people don't find this funny. It just is.
It is stranger yet that people would dictate Joe's priorities to him. "Fill-in-the-blank is more important and you should blog on that instead" (please insert snotty tone). I mean, really, do you READ this blog? Sometimes it is about life's most important issues. But it also contains Yak SR posts. It's a blog written by a creative guy with his free time. Get over it.
And it is predictable that people like Boontoon and JohnW would not like this and ascribe improper motives to Joe. When you're filled with anger towards a position/person, it makes it impossible for you to see things clearly.

I did no such thing. I said I thought it was a cute joke the first time around, second time it gets kind of tiring. I objected to the silly hyperventilating over what 'penalty' this guy should be made to pay for the horrible crime of 'bandwidth theft'.
When you're filled with anger towards a position/person, it makes it impossible for you to see things clearly.
Indeed, since you seem to be unable to tell who wrote what I suggest the doctor should heed his own advice.

His unhinged reaction is almost more fun than the original reaction. That's the only hope I have for the Republican party is that the humorless Marxists and Kossacks of the netroots will become very well known.
