Hotlinking images, defined as using the graphic image of an external site in your own code, is an violation of internet etiquette. As Kevin Aylward from Wizbang! says, "It's all fine and good to give a hotlinker a break, but the best way to turn newbie hotlinkers into respectable Interweb citizens is a dose of public embarrassment."
Unfortunately, The Huffington Post hasn't learned its lesson so when they hotlinked to an image from Family Research Council:

My web editor Jared Bridges and I decided to replace it with another image:

(Note: No kittens were actually harmed in the making of this prank. The kitty is only sleeping. Here is a closeup of that image.)
Here's the direct link to that page. Eventually they should be smart enough to take it down...or not.
(UPDATE: After 3 1/2 hours, Max finally caught on and removed the image.)

Maybe it's not so much a concern about net politeness, but some of Blumenthal's articles are stepping on some toes? Like this one:

Proper etiquitte requires that we don't associate with people who get their rolodexes from the KKK, and that when we come in contact with them in cyber-space, we bring up this fact.

That's one way to learn em'.

Hey, bandwidth stealing is major uncool. I support your prank admonishment of Blumenthal.
Reading the article, however, I think it ties to your earlier point about the difference between "Coulter conservatives" and actual biblical Christianity. In that the FRC could be cozy with uber-conservative Hitchens, who when you scratch the surface seethes against the Church Historic.

Apparently Blumenthal is hotlinking to the same image on his own website!

They've just now fixed it.
I've seen it happen on eBay, so the image owners swap own for something really, really vulgar. It can be more than funny. Like this.
So what should be the price for theft? I've seen people bill others for this type of activity. Send 'em a bill. Make it a legit transaction. Or change the image to a bill.
So, Joe, your next post is "How to Humiliate a Marxist"?

Nice,
Very Christ-like....we'll ok, maybe not. Very "evangelical" though.

I am still laughing out loud. That is very very funny. Good for you.

Maybe sometime they'll even take down the caption that no longer has a picture to go with it.

I didn't know you worked with Jared Bridges.

You played a dirty trick over a "netiquette" violation? Wow. You've dedicated your life to Jesus no doubt, so its sort of a dirty trick for Jesus. The fact that someone as evil as Hitchens is wallowing around in the filth at the misnamed family research council doesn't seem worthy of comment and the existence of massive death and destruction for money and power - all done supposedly for Jesus - surely is less significant than a violation of "netiquette."
You're coming in loud and clear.

With very little uncertainty I claim that those sniping at your "un-Christ-like" behavior have bitterly complained many times that Christians don't have a sense of humor.
Very funny Joe.
Find that sense of humor, folks!

Of course a better argument that the FRC or Joe could have taken is that Max is subverting his own argument about the FRC. If the FRC is intolerant of anyone who holds a different view of religion or abotion (don't forget, Hitchens is as down on pro-lifism as he is religion) then why are they cozy with Hitchens? The response would be that they are tolerant of Hitchens because he agrees with them on foreign policy but disagree with him on abortion and religion.
Real simple, it not only addresses Max's point but also counters the view that the FRC is intolerant or that they want religion to dictate all public policy. To bad they were having too much fun patting each other on the back to make this argument.

Tolerant? How about insincere?
As long Hitchen is an ally, it doesn't matter if he writes an editorial denouncing the goals of the FRC in the Wall Street Journal a few months before his visit [“Why I’m Rooting Against the Religious Right.” in the Wall Street Journal, May 5, 2005] or that Bill Donahue calls him an anti-catholic bigot at Justice Sunday II a few months later [see video at www.savethecourt.org/site/c.mwK0JbNTJrF/b.982829/k.A607/VIDEO_Bill_Donohue.htm].
Look at the vitriolic words towards Blumenthal, this is how they treat people with opposing viewpoints, who don’t serve them politically. They disagree with him, but HE DOESN’T HAPPEN TO BE A POLITICAL ALLY. It’s all so very Straussian…
