What is obvious is that there has never been a 'Palestinian country' in all that time that had control of its own destiny, unlike Israel at various times. Even today it is incorrect to speak in national terms of 'Palestine' or 'Palestinians' except in terms of the expectations of various deals made with Israel, reflecting the hopes of the United Nations that a 'Palestine' would emerge that was ready to live with Israel after 1948. Instead, these people have always opposed peace -including being serious, defeated rebels within Lebanon and Jordan, and also being expelled from Kuwait where they had good jobs before 1991 -because they betrayed Kuwait and favoured Saddam's regime..
posted on 10.22.2006 10:07 PMMany scores of 1000s of Jews had to leave surrounding Islamic enemy countries after 1948, and they headed for the only Jewish country on Earth -struggling new Israel - joining many who had migrated legally and illegally there in previous decades [eg from 'Christian' Russia and Germany] OR had always lived there.
Israel has land rights now because it won 5 wars, all intended to eliminate them. If Israel is not a legitimate nation, then neither is the USA, or Australia, or many others.
It alarms me that too many evangelicals are anti-Israel now - conveniently calling it 'anti-Zionism', and this stems from a proud 'replacement theology' in many denominations.

It's interesting that at least as far as the land involving Israel is concerned six of these kingdoms were prophisied in the Bible. God's promise to Abraham resulting in the first kingdom after the exodus. The Assyrians taking the northern kingdom captive, the Bablyonians taking the southern kingdom captive, the Greek and Roman empires in Daniel and the fact that for Revelation to come to pass there has to be a nation of Israel with a temple in Jerusleam. Ezekial's war of Gog/Magog seems to be progressing too. With the pact between Russia, Iran, and Syria we have half the players in place. Iraq, Turkey, and Sudan are left to join in. Turkey will align with the Russians as the EU keeps stiff arming them, Sudan is already a fundi moslem theocracy and Iraq with its Shea majority who are Persian not Arab and have the same form of Islam as Iran could easily fall under the influence of Iran when we pull out which may be soon.

THIS is proof of how low the left is willing to sink. Apparently, they now think the protection of our country is funny. How sad.

Yes, Neil, and Jonathan Swift thought that eating Irish babies was funny. You need to look up "satire". Sheesh!

What happened to the British Mandate of Palistine? 1920-1948

posted on 10.24.2006 10:24 AMWell a big chunk of it was given to the man who then became the first king of Jordan.
Just because some europeans called it Palistine didn't make it so.

Mike:
Your right about just because some "Europeans called it Palestine doesn't make it so." I thought is was interesting, all the same, that it was left out. I think Israel has every right to a home and to feel safe. From what I have read though, Palestinians have a right to a home and safety too. Before the creation of the Israeli state and the huge inflow of Jewish immigrants, who owned the land and lived there?

posted on 10.24.2006 3:33 PMSome Jews having bought property from locals as it wasn't much till Israel irrigated, were already living there before the British gave them what was left of the Palistinian Mandate. Many more early settlers came to Israel from neighboring countries and lost their property without compensation when they moved. The Moslem residents of the area moved out when they were told by the five Moslem nations that attacked Israel 1948 to get out of the line of fire as they were going to destroy Israel. The present Palistinians are the result of the 1967 war and Barak offered Arrafat the farm a few years back but Arrafat was unwilling to accept it. They want all or nothing it seems to me.

Mike is right, Moby. I'm surprised you think that a 'British Mandate area' contradicts my statement that Palestine never existed as a country.
posted on 10.24.2006 9:58 PMIt's obvious from your own comment. Please learn some history and you will understand the rights of Jews in the area.
You might like to reflect on the fact that under Islamic rule before 1967 the Jews and Christians had few rights in Jerusalem. Similarly, Hebron, an ancient sacred site for Jews, is always under siege from Palestinians right now -to expel a small number of local Jews!
Ask yourself why they can't respect any other religion's rights..

Barrie and Mike,
posted on 10.25.2006 1:31 AMThanks for your responses. I really did like the whole graphic map thing, and didn't want to sound critical. I do like history and should probably go down to the library and get a good book.

posted on 10.26.2006 10:49 AMYou asked an honest question and with all the propaganda out there it's hard to sift through to the truth. The Palistinians are a festering sore squeezed in between Israel and their arab neighbors who supply them with arms and little else. The only people interested in a peaceful solution to this appear to me to be the Jews. It will not happen anytime soon. The right of return, i.e. all the residents of the area who left when the five nations each with a larger better equipped army attacked Israel in 1948 immediately after the British established the state return and claim property. Israel can never allow this as they would be outnumbered inside their own borders.
