The Book Burro extension is a Web 2.0 extension for Firefox. When it senses your are looking at a page that contains a book, it will overlay a small panel which when opened lists prices at online bookstores such as Amazon, Buy, Half.com (and many more).

#373 Know Your Fallacies -- Overwhelming Exception -- a generalization which is accurate, but comes with one or more qualifications which eliminate so many cases that what remains is much less impressive than the initial statement might have led one to assume. (Example: "All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?" (The attempted implication (fallaciously false in this case) is that the Romans did nothing for us). This is a quotation from Monty Python's Life of Brian.)

#378 Gmail Hack -- The ExtremeTech website explains why Gmail can be used as the "Notepad of the web":
  • Filename is optional. No need to think of a unique filename to save under—just enter your content and go.
  • Search all your past files at once.
  • Spell-checking on demand.
  • Load/save your text files from any computer in the world.
  • Cross-platform—you can access it from any make or model of machine, as long as you can get online with a web browser.
  • Undo Discard. Ever wish you could retrieve your file after closing it without saving? Now you can.

This technique works pretty well—and now that Gmail has rich-text editing capabilities, it has become even more powerful. Because you might be using the Drafts folder for things other than stored notes, you might like to assign the mail a label.

About the GMail thing, there's already a site on the web that will act as a notepad for you. I use it for my blog, recipies, shopping lists, and just when I find a weird quote that I want to remember later on.

It's at ImaNoteTaker.com

I thought the overwhelming exception was better classed as a certain kind of humor. No one actually uses it in debate unless they intend to argue the opposite of what they are actually saying, do they?

Joe,

On the iPod and Powerpoint hack. The one thing that isn't clear from your post is why that is an iPod hack. You need to import the slides / JPEGs into your iPod and with the apple A/V cable you can show a slide show from your iPod. Maybe now an iPod is a legit business expense??

Thanks for the HT.
