Spotlight on Darfur 3 -- Catez Stevens has a collection of articles/posts on Darfur, one of the most troubled countries on the planet. The roundup includes contributions on justice and ethics, politics and the international community, and how to help.

More Movies -- For those who can't get enough movie lists, the Arts & Faith forum has their latest edition of the Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films.

*******

10 Second Movie Review -- King Kong: Pacing: Frustratingly slack and makes the already arduous 187 minute running time feel twice as long. For the DVD, Peter Jackson needs to release a Director's Cut that actually cuts an hour off the film. Acting: Naomi Watts is illuminating, Jack Black is irritating, and Adrian Brody is insipid. Special effects: Kong and the other creatures on Skull Island are so painstakingly rendered that they make the dinosaurs in Jurrassic Park look like claymation figures. Overall: Watts and Kong have a suprisingly touching chemistry, in a relationship that transcends categorical description (it's not exactly love. Or friendship. But its something poweful nonetheless). If Jackson had took a firmer hand in editing this monstrosity it would have earned an A. As it stands its worthy of a solid B.

New Blog Alert -- Mark Swanson has launched Best of the GodBlogs, a portal to "the best of the Christian blogosphere."

*******

Reality Check -- Wondering if you might be emergent church material? Or attained dispensationalist divine status? Or worried you might be obsessing about Calvinism?

*******

Weblog Awards -- Thanks to everyone who voted for EO in the 2005 Weblog Awards. Jay Adkins, a worthy evangelical blogger, and I were in a dead heat all week and I really thought he was going to take the title. I'm starting to wonder, though, if it isn't a rather dubious honor to be listed alongside Daily Kos and Crooks and Liars. It has had the benefit of bringing a few new readers, including Radical Civility who offers an extensive review. Their conclusion: " I'd rather read something that surprises me, which is why I probably won't be reading that much of Evangelical Outpost." Ouch.

Well, Joe, I would say the honor is not dubious in the least. If, as you argue below, science is not philosophically neutral [a position with which I agree] it is certainly the case that Evangelical Christianity is not politically neutral.

So, like it or not, Daily Kos and Crooks and Liars are your inevitable companions. As am I, both as a Buddhist and as a Liberal blogger.

I must say that I cannot agree with Radical Civility's conclusion. But since very little surprises me anymore, I suppose I'm operating from a different starting point.

In any event, I am one of those new readers of you from the awards, and it will be both my pleasure to read you and an honor to include so fine a blog on my own roll.

I second your review of King Kong. It was long. A good movie but long. It paced itself well, but it was long and didn't need to be. In general it's length really distracts from the story and overloads the viewers with trivia. T

The Radical Civility review is nice, if just for this link to your background post.

Ouch? I imagine that's facetious. But sorry if my words bothered you in any way. The context matters: "[H]aving come from a conservative evangelical background myself, I find a lot of this stuff to be old hat. I’d rather read something that surprises me, which is why I probably won’t be reading that much of Evangelical Outpost." If it makes you feel any better, you're on my blogroll, which I limit to only twelve blogs.
