Outtakes
09.21.05

JustAnotherGodBlog? -- Hosting a national radio show, teaching at a law school, writing columns for The Weekly Standard and World magazine, giving speeches, writing books, and hosting one of the most popular blogs on the planet is obviously not enough to keep Hugh Hewitt busy. This week he launched a new project called OneTrueGodBlog, a blog dedicated to conversations about God and the modern world. Hugh has assembled an impressive lineup of contributors (Albert Mohler, John Mark Reynolds, Mark D. Roberts, Amy Welborn, and David Allen White) so it will be interesting to see how this fits into his plan of becoming King of Alternative Media.

Blog Activism -- If you skip past all of the embarrassingly generous compliments Steve Adams pays to this blog, you'll find a paragraph in his latest post about a magazine article he is working on about Christian bloggers and activism. Help Steve out by providing him some examples of how Godbloggers have used this medium to effect change.

Is the NIV not Nonfiction? -- Does Wal-Mart think the Bible is a work of fiction?

Charitable CEOs Contest -- Charmaine Yoest is having a contest comparing the salaries of the Commander of the Salvation Army and the head of the Red Cross. The winner gets one of Jollyblogger’s “I Think Therefore I Blog” t-shirts. Think you can guess their annual salaries?

Perfume and Poor People -- Jim Gilbert poses an interesting question concerning Mark 14:3-5, the passage where Jesus' disciples criticize a woman for "wasting" valuable perfume on Jesus' feet:

While He was in Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume of pure nard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head. But some were indignantly remarking to one another, "Why has this perfume been wasted? For this perfume might have been sold for over three hundred [a]denarii, and the money given to the poor." And they were scolding her.

Is this criticism valid?

Seeing the link about the NIV in the "fiction" section at Wal-Mart reminded me - I saw the "Left Behind" books in a city's library sale in the ... "occult" section. I'm sure some people would like to see the Bible there as well.
