Constitution Party or Texas GOP? -
Can You Tell The Difference?

It appears that after the Texas GOP is finished cribbing its party's platform from the Libertarians, they turn to the Constitution Party to fill in the gaps. Based on the following positions taken from the 2004 Constitution Party platform and the 2000 Texas GOP platform, can you tell which is which?

State Sovereignty
A. The federal government has no authority to mandate policies relating to state education, natural resources, transportation, private business, housing, health care, ad infinitum. The Party calls for the federal government to divest itself of operations not authorized by the Constitution.
B. The Party supports state sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment which reserves to the states or the people all powers not specifically delegated in the Constitution to the federal government and opposes the institution of mandates that are beyond the scope of the federal authority.

Limited Federal Powers
A. The Party urges the re–affirmation of states’ rights guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. We further support the abolition of federal agencies involved in activities not originally intended to be delegated to the federal government under a strict interpretation of the Constitution.
B. The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution makes clear that the federal government has only those powers which are explicitly delegated to it. All other powers are reserved to the states and to the people. We pledge to be faithful to this Constitutional requirement and to work methodically to restore to the states and to the people their rightful control over legislative, judicial, executive, and regulatory functions which are not Constitutionally delegated to the federal government.

Presidential Executive Orders
A. The Party demands the elimination of presidential authority to issue executive orders, presidential decision directives and other administrative mandates that do not have congressional approval. Further, we demand a repeal of all previous executive orders and administrative mandates.
B. All unconstitutional executive orders must be repealed.

Statehood for the District of Columbia
A. The Party strongly opposes all efforts to make the District of Columbia the fifty–first state in the United States of America.
B. We oppose any effort to confer statehood on the District of Columbia or any representation in Congress comparable to that of an independent state in the federal union.

Constitutional Conventions
A. The Party opposes a Constitutional Convention or “Conference of the States" to rewrite the United States Constitution.
B. We oppose any attempt to call for a Constitutional convention, for any purpose whatsoever, because it cannot be limited to any single issue, and such convention could seriously erode our Constitutionally protected unalienable rights.

Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty
A. The Party continues to encourage and support: the abandonment of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.
B. In order to protect our territory, our armed forces, and our citizenry, we should immediately give notice of our withdrawal from the Nixon-Brezhnev Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, which restricts full development and deployment of a strategic defense system.

Space-based Defense
A. The Party continues to encourage and support: the immediate funding and development of the Strategic Defense Initiative.
B. We call for the deployment of a fully operational, space-based defense system as soon as possible.

Woman in the Military
A. Support…the exclusion of women from combat roles; separation of men and women in basic training as is the practice of the Marine Corps.
B. We reject the policies and practices that permit women to train for or participate in combat.

Military Serving Under UN
A. Not requiring members of United States forces to wear any item of uniform other than that of the United States or being required to serve in any capacity under an officer of the United Nations or other foreign state.
B. Under no circumstances would we commit U.S. forces to serve under any foreign flag or command.

Panama Canal
A. he Party urges Congress to support HJR 77, the Panama and America Security Act, which declare the Carter-Torrijos Treaty null and void. We support re-establishing United States control over the Canal in order to retain our military bases in Panama, to preserve our right to transit through the Canal, and to prevent the establishment of Chinese missile bases in Panama.
B. Inasmuch as the United States bought both the sovereignty and the grant ownership of the ten-mile-wide Canal Zone, we propose that the government of the United States maintain and protect its sovereign right and exclusive jurisdiction of the Canal Zone in perpetuity, and renegotiate the treaties with Panama by which the ownership of the canal was surrendered to Panama.

Abortion
A. All innocent human life must be respected and safeguarded from conception to natural death; therefore, the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. The Party affirms its support for a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse making clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protection applies to unborn children.
B. The pre-born child, whose life begins at fertilization, is a human being created in God’s image. The first duty of the law is to prevent the shedding of innocent blood. It is, therefore, the duty of all civil governments to secure and to safeguard the lives of the pre-born.

Department of Education
A. We call for the abolition of the U. S. Department of Education and the prohibition of the transfer of any of its functions to any other federal agency.
B. Because the federal government has absolutely no jurisdiction concerning the education of our children, the United States Department of Education should be abolished;

Marriage
A. The Party supports the traditional definition of marriage as a God–ordained, legal and moral commitment only between a man and a woman, which is the foundational unit of a healthy society.
B. The law of our Creator defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman. The marriage covenant is the foundation of the family. We affirm, therefore, that no government may authorize or define marriage or family relations contrary to what God has instituted.

The United Nations
A. The Party believes it is in the best interest of the citizens of the United States that we immediately rescind our membership in, as well as all financial and military contributions to, the United Nations.
B. The Party calls on the United States to withdraw from the United Nations and to require the U.N. to move out of the United States.

Taiwan
A. The Party recognizes Taiwan as a long time ally of the United States and as an independent and sovereign nation.
B. The United States should recognize Taiwan (Free China) as a sovereign nation.

China
A. We further urge the imposition of trade sanctions against communist China for interfering in United States political campaigns.
B. We should also withdraw recognition of Communist China, which is a murderous and tyrannical regime enslaving the Chinese people.

Gambling
A. The Party continues to oppose government–sponsored gambling as a means of financing state government.
B. We are opposed to government sponsorship, involvement in, or promotion of gambling, such as lotteries, or subsidization of native American casinos in the name of economic development.

Immigration (Amnesty)
A. We oppose any further “amnesties" for illegal aliens.
B. We oppose any extension of amnesty to illegal aliens.

Monetary System
A. Since the Federal Reserve System is a private corporation, has no reserves, and is not subject to taxation or audit, we call on Congress to abolish this institution and reassume its authority, enumerated by Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, for the coinage of money.
B. Repealing the Federal Reserve Act and reforming the current Federal Reserve banks into clearing houses only. Restoring the nation’s official medium of exchange to be compliant with the U.S. Constitution and the Mint Act of 1792.

Taxes on Religious Institutions
A. The Party acknowledges that the church is a God–ordained institution with a sphere of authority separate from that of civil government; thus, churches, synagogues and other places of worship, including home Bible study groups, should not be regulated, controlled, or taxed by any level of civil government, including the Social Security Administration.
B. We assert that any form of taxation on churches and other religious organizations is a direct and dangerous step toward state control of the church. Such intrusion is prohibited by the Constitution and must be halted.

Social Security
A. The Party supports an orderly transition to a system of private pensions based on the concept of individual retirement accounts, and gradually phasing out the Social Security tax
B. The Party supports legislation to require that the federal government meet its obligations to protect Social Security funds as a trust which can be used only to fulfill its obligations to those who have contributed to the system. Additionally, we believe an individual who has contributed to Social Security be allowed to withdraw contributed funds and transfer them to an IRA or similar investment under his control.

Abolishing the IRS
A. We urge that the IRS be abolished and the Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution be repealed.
B. We will propose legislation to abolish the Internal Revenue Service, and will veto any authorization, appropriation, or continuing resolution which contains any funding whatsoever for that illicit and unconstitutional agency.

Taxes
A. A constitutional tax, collected and controlled by the States, must generate sufficient revenue for the legitimate tasks of the national government; however, tax reform will work best if accompanied concurrently with a meaningful spending reform, with a provision that a two-thirds majority of the United States House and United States Senate is required to raise taxes.
B. It is our intention to replace entirely the current tax system of the U.S. government (including income taxes, Social Security taxes, estate taxes, and inheritance taxes). To the degree that tariffs on foreign products are insufficient to cover the legitimate Constitutional costs of the federal government, we will offer an apportioned "state-rate tax" in which the responsibility for covering the cost of unmet obligations will be divided among the several states in accordance with their proportion of the total population of the United States, excluding the District of Columbia.

Answer: All Texas Republican positions are A; Constitution Party positions are all B.

A-mazing. Both this and your previous post comparing the Texas GOP platform to the Libertarian Party platform are truly amazing. One more reason to consider moving to Texas. (Sorry, not moving, but I'd love to see this platform spread to other states.)

Whiny Libertarians who claim there is no difference between the democrats and republicans should be referred to this post!

Someone give Michael Medved a call. I'm sure he would like to quote this to his "Losertarian" callers.

Well, if the libertarians and Constitutionalists would join the GOP, form a Declaration caucus, then the GOP would be those parties.

And just how many members of the Texas RP actually follow that platform besides Ron Paul?

So, when you say "after the Texas GOP is finished cribbing its party's platform from the Libertarians, they turn to the Constitution Party to fill in the gaps." And then proceed to state that it's the 2000 GOP platform, and the 2004 Constitution Party and 2004 Libertarian Party platforms, uh, just who is copying from whom?

Bill,

I meant that tongue-in-cheek. I don't really think the Texas GOP is copying those other parties' platforms. But I do think they're copying their ideas.

Then I could support them.
