Last week I asked UCLA law professor Steve Bainbridge why this story wasnt getting attention from the mainstream media. He said that this sort of bill is introduced in state legislatures all the time and if were to get closer to passage it would get peoples attention. As usual, Steve was right.
As Jeffrey pointed out, the SD house passed the bill 54-15. With 18 of the 36 Senators listed as sponsors of the bill it should pass in the Senate as well. The press obviously thought it was time to take notice. After Columbus Avenue tipped me off that the story had made it onto Yahoo News, I was able to find newspaper in ten states and one foreign country (Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Kansas, California, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Washington, Louisiana, and the U.K.) that had already picked up on the story.
Now that the press has picked up on the story I can call off the daily watch (though Ill still post updates as the bill makes its way through the SD Senate). Let these bloggers, who carried the story while the media was distracted by other matters, know that you appreciate their efforts:

But will (key Saruman's voice) "The Nine" show judicial restraint, or will they exercise their fourth, fifth, ninth, and 14th amendment right to abort the unwanted statute in the first trimester?
And if "The Nine" fail to show judicial restraint, what can we do? Neither Living nor Dead, the Nine Wraiths of the Supreme Court cannot be fired as long as they have good behavior. Nice Wraithey, that's a Goooood Wraith . . .
Thankfully, three of the Honorable Justices of the Supreme Court (Rehnquist, Scalia, and Thomas) have not been so corrupted as to sacrifice scores of millions of the unborn on the altars of Baal-Precedent (see Wade and Casey) and Molech-Liberalism. If we could get two more people on the Court, we could end the Shoa of the Unborn. The party affiliation of the next president will turn the tide of idolatrous liberalism in this country and save or condemn about a hundred million lives by 2050. That's what's at stake in November, and may God in His grace bless us by appointing good rulers for us. For blessing or chastisement, the choice in November is His, and the only votes that count are prayers.

Memo to Jake:
cc: Bill Frist
The White House
While the party affiliation of the president chosen in November may well affect the tide of baal, molech, and other idolatrous practices, it takes the Senate to confirm whatever judges are nominated by said president. If they won't confirm a District Court judge in Arkansas why would they confirm a Supreme?
